Charles Smith MSc BSc(Hons) is the Member representing the East Metropolitan Region in the Western Australian Legislative Council. He was elected to the Fortieth Parliament for the East Metropolitan Region on 20 April 2017. He is also a Member of the Joint Standing Committee on Delegated Legislation.

Mr Smith holds a Bachelor and Masters of Science as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management and a Diploma of Policing.

Charles is a former frontline police officer with the Western Australian Police, spending the majority of his policing career in regional WA living in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. As a police officer Charles specialised in domestic violence and child protection work, before leaving in 2013 to join the Department of Mines and Petroleum as a liaison officer.

Mr Smith is firmly committed to supporting the WA Police, proposing tougher criminal legislation and sentencing, easing the population squeeze on Perth, addressing flatlining standards in education, ensuring locals come first for jobs and housing, and standing up against political correctness.

I believe that the major party duopoly is failing West Australians. I believe vested interests have far too much sway over government. I believe extreme political correctness and minority fundamentalism are threats to democracy and freedom of speech. I believe we need more ordinary people and less career politicians in parliament. I believe the ‘forgotten people’ need a voice now more than ever.
